Mid-Season Report: Junior Belgian Rally Championship

Cols Leads the Pack, but the Title Fight Is Far from Over

We’re halfway through the 2024 Junior Belgian Rally Championship, and the fight at the front is getting sharper with every stage. The championship so far has been defined by consistency, intelligent racecraft, and standout performances across varied terrain. Here’s how things are shaping up:

Position Driver Points
1 Lény Cols 76
2 Lander Depotter 50
3 Thyrsa Eertmans 48
4 Corentin Fiasse 43

Lény Cols has emerged as the championship leader, thanks to a commanding first half of the season. His most clinical drive came at the Sezoensrally, where he handled the mix of asphalt and Maaskiezel gravel with surgical precision. Driving a Renault Clio Rally5, Cols didn’t put a wheel wrong, balancing aggression with calculation to take the win and extend his points lead.

Behind him, Lander Depotter is pushing hard. He’s already secured a victory this year, showcasing his raw pace and determination. But despite flashes of brilliance, inconsistency has cost him crucial points. He knows that to challenge Cols seriously, he needs to turn speed into a string of results.

Thyrsa Eertmans has been the revelation of the season. Driving with increasing confidence, she’s made visible progress in every rally. At Sezoensrally, her improved stage rhythm and grip management highlighted how far she’s come, especially with guidance from the RACB National Team. Her third-place standing doesn’t just reflect talent—it shows she’s learning fast and racing smarter with every outing.

Not far behind, Corentin Fiasse is quietly putting together a solid campaign. At the wheel of a Peugeot 208 Rally4, he’s consistently scored top-five finishes and squeezed every ounce of performance from his machinery. While not yet on the top step, his pace suggests he could be a real threat on faster gravel rounds coming up.

The most recent rounds have shown how narrow the margins are. Cols remains the benchmark, but Depotter’s urgency is growing. Eertmans is within striking distance, and Fiasse is a wildcard with momentum on his side. Each of these young drivers brings different strengths to the table—raw speed, tactical acumen, or consistent improvement—and that blend is making this championship one of the most dynamic we’ve seen.

At Vittorio Caneva Rally School, we know that championships are decided not just on pace, but on preparation. With stages that mix surfaces and require on-the-fly adaptability, our training—like the Advanced Rally Course with Vittorio Caneva—could make the difference in this title race. Car control, pacenote execution, and setup precision are the skills that will decide who lifts the trophy come season’s end.

This championship is heating up. And from what we’re seeing on the stages, the best is yet to come.
