Under18 Rally Courses for young drivers

Vittorio Caneva Rally School, with its 35 years and more of experience in training in the world of rallying, has developed and constantly refined multiple Rally Courses, many of which are specifically adapted for younger children still under 18.

The Under18 rally drivers and the Federations: the current state

The starting age of modern pilots has gradually decreased in recent years. Above all there is the example of Kalle Rovampera, World Rally Champion at just 22 years and 1 day. However, his growth path began many years ago, when his father Harri introduced him to the world of four-wheel engines from an early age. At just 14 years old he made his debut in the world of competitions in Latvia, one of the European nations where even today the driving B license is not one of the requirements for racing in rallies with a driver’s license.

The FIA (International Automobile Federation) recently issued a directive inviting each European Federation to provide the tools for Under 18s to race as well. This implies that, if the legislation does not yet allow it in the driver’s country of residence, the driver must be offered the possibility of being able to race with a foreign license in those countries, such as Latvia, which allow it.

Many of the Rally Courses developed by Vittorio Caneva Rally School do not imply the need to have a driving license. These rally courses take place in maximum safety in private areas, on circuits or in special stages closed to traffic with regular permits and equipped with marshals.

Examples of this are all our Gravel Rally Courses which, offering a complete progression starting with the STAGE Gravel Rally Courses, allow the driver to start and learn the correct driving technique on special Gravel tracks, up to driving FIA rally cars in special stages.

The minimum participation requirements are considered and analyzed from time to time. There is no express minimum age, but with all the necessary precautions, together with the parents, the available options are evaluated and the best educational path to follow is identified.
